Iloilo Welcomes Pres. Aquino, Iloilo Convention Center unveiled

Infrastructure projects and developments are pouring in Iloilo City, touted as the next economic giant and rapidly rising modern metropolis in the southern Philippines. To signify these remarkable changes and barometers of progress in Iloilo City, President Benigno Aquino III visited Iloilo City on June 27, 2014 to inaugurate some 4 billion worth of infrastructure projects realized during his term.

President Aquino will led the inauguration that started at 14-kilometer circumferential road from the coastal road to the Acropolis. The President conducted a drive through the Esplanade I up to the diversion avenue and to the 10-lane diversion road up to Sambag, Jaro. After Sambag, he visited the construction of a six-lane road to the Iloilo airport entrance in Cabatuan, Iloilo where a service and access road going to the airport is being constructed with a perimeter fence.

The President conducted a drive through inspection of these completed projects on top of the update reports on the ongoing construction of the P700 million Iloilo Convention Center, P200 million Iloilo fishing port expansion and the soon to be implemented P350 million new bridge connecting Arroyo to Lapuz district near the new roro wharf and the P100-million Promenade II starting behind the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to Muelle Loney.

Senator Franklin Drilon said the President was briefed on the update of the biggest dam project outside of Luzon, the P11.2 billion Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project (JRMP) Stage II to be constructed in Calinog, Iloilo.

The convention center will strengthen Iloilo’s vision to become the next convention destination.
